The Bedford Diaries

An interesting site you've got here. You also might be interested in a review I just posted this morning, over at my blog Mere Words, about the WB's censorship of The Beford Diaries, the new drama series co-created by Tom Fontana and Julie Martin and executive-produced by Barry Levinson. Your comments are welcome. Enjoy.

Operation Home for the Holidays

Hi! I'm writing to let you know about a little anti-war performance I did
with my family over Thanksgiving weekend. I heard about this lady on the
radio doing it (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5021524)
and we copied it.

We took toy soldiers and put a label on them that says "bring me home from
Iraq for the holidays" and we placed them all over stores -- in Best Buy and
the supermarket - and then customers or employees find them on top of
granola bars or iPods, etc.

The idea is to confront consumers for a brief moment -- to ask them to think
about Bush's approach (failure!) and what they're going to do about it. It
also offers an encouragement to other activists, citizens of conscience, and
military families, in that someone is doing something to bring soldiers

So, it's extremely easy (and relatively cheap) to do! Look for toy soldiers
at your local dollar, toy, or department store, glue them on to some paper,
and write/print "Bring Me Home from Iraq for the Holidays," then walk around
stores and leave them (in)conspicuously on shelves!

We're psyched, we wanna get it in blogs and news media and work a snowball
effect and have this protest-performance-action sweep the nation, and be the
next Cindy Sheehan anti-war strategy.

I've started a blog to keep track of where these are popping up. Please
send in pictures of actions you've done (or seen):

in peace & solidarity,
"Femme Egale"

Please sign this petition to protect the National Forests of the United States. You must be a US citizen to sign. The petition reads:

To: U.S. Congress
Dear members of Congress:

Please introduce the Forever Wild Act, as supported by the Native Forest Council, to the 109th session of Congress. Our public lands, now owned and hereafter acquired, deserve complete and total protection from extractive industries. Do everything in your power to eliminate all logging, road building, grazing, mining, and drilling on every acre of Federal public lands, including but not limited to: National Forests, National Parks, National Wildlife Refuges, Wilderness Areas, BLM lands, and National Monuments.

I'm not going to apologize for what I'm about to post... but I feel the need to post this in various places.

I will post it as I see fit.

I would like for everyone, no matter how busy they are, to stop for just a few minutes and read what I am about to say.

This has been crossposted in SEVERAL different places, so if you've seen it before, I do apologize.

Let's get to work, people.

Ok so the election is next week, y'all. NEXT WEEK!

We can sit here posting to each other about how great Kerry is and how pathetic GW is, but we're preaching to the choir, aren't we? We agree with each other. Power to the people.

What we NEED to do is get out there to political websites and message boards and post to people who are undecided.

I think we should make a list of arguements. Why should someone who is undecided pick John Kerry over George Bush? I would be happy to compile the responses together to make one universal post that we can just past everywhere we can find.

Issues that should be addressed in these arguements:

-gay marriage
-health care
-the economy
-gas prices
-global hatred
-the environment
-stem cell research
-candidate's past
-anything else you can come up with!

So get started! Start ranting in your reply about any of these topics and let's see what we can come up with.

If anyone has any graphics that we can use when we post, let's get the codes for those, too.

It's crunch time, Kerry needs us!

Someone on the Buffyworld Forum just brought this to my attention and I thought some of you might be interested:

A Message From Joss on the X-Men Thread at Whedonesque:

Hey guys. I wanted to post on the thread about the fund-raiser, but it's long gone. So I'll post on the X-Men thread instead.

The truth about the X-Men is...

...much less important than this election. Much less important than putting someone in the White House who knows the difference between leading and bullying. I'm here to confirm that I will be doing the phone-party on Sunday [Oct.24] and I'm urging any and everyone to attend one or even host one. (Highstakes2004.com.) I plan to be incredibly funny and insightful, or mention some people who have been in the past. We can talk about politics, we can talk about Buffy, we can talk about car maintenence (though I'll mostly just listen at that point) and I will once and for all tell you all what IS going on with the X-Men. And then we can talk about politics some more.

So many people are acting like there's little difference between Kerry and Bush and that is not the case. If you're for Bush I doubt I can sway you but if you're one of those people grumbling about politicians all being the same I'm begging you to look hard at the facts and at the smirking face of the man who is doing more damage to this country than any president in my lifetime. We cannot let apathy decide our fate. I'm sounding all soapbox-y but I am truly afraid for our economic infrastucture, our dwindling natural reserves and most of all our place in the world. We need to act.

Uh, and it'll be... fun...

It will. Insane Phone Posse, and for a great cause. Get in. I'll stay on the phone as long as anyone will listen. Let freedom ring, unless it's on vibrate. Can we pretend I didn't say that?
