I'm not going to apologize for what I'm about to post... but I feel the need to post this in various places.

I will post it as I see fit.

I would like for everyone, no matter how busy they are, to stop for just a few minutes and read what I am about to say.

This has been crossposted in SEVERAL different places, so if you've seen it before, I do apologize.

I pray for humanity. We have become selfish, lazy, and ignorant. This needs to change right here, and right now, and we need to look at ourselves and fix it all. I've seen many things and I know there is so much suffering I know nothing about, but I want to know about it. I want to do something about it. (I do not attest to the accuracy of this story, but I do remember it as well as I can.)

A few years ago, a girl who lived in or around China lived with her parents in a small house. They lived rather comfortably until the parents died in a car wreck. She had to find a way to feed her many siblings and her search took her not far from her house to a clothing factory. She started working ninety hours a week making around $20 per week, which barely kept her and her brothers and sisters fed. One day, she came home from work and the oldest of her younger sisters noticed she was exceptionally flushed. "Work is very tiring. I'll be fine." she said. The following day, she died from exhaustion. Work did not desist around her; the other workers kept toiling with machinery and fabric. Her body was left in its place until the end of the day when it was swept out like it was a piece of garbage.

After hearing a story like this, can you actually go out to American Eagle, Lerner, GAP (Which owns Old Navy and Banana Republic), or other stores which have slaves overseas? People are suffering just so we can spend $25-$80 on a pair of pants, so we can look cute or even just cover ourselves.

We sleep comfortably at night in our warm sheets in our walled fortresses with DVD, TVs, computers, hardback books, refridgerators, and fireplaces and we waste all our food and throw it out and say, "Oh well, it's just a few dollars." when there's some child in New York city sleeping in an abandoned bus terminal with the cold asphalt freezing the back of her neck and the last time she ate was two days ago and it was something she fished out of the bottom of a garbage can.

AND WE LIVE OUR FUCKING SUGAR COATED GODDAMN LIVES AND DON'T EVEN GLANCE AT THE DESOLATE MASS OF BROKEN HUMANITY THAT LIES BEFORE US.

While we gripe and whine about our food being cold or the digital satellite going out or not getting our fucking newspaper in the morning at 10am. I could tell you some stories.

I worked in Wal-Mart bakery and I took a woman's order... I got confused and somehow I put 12 count cupcakes instead of 24 count. It was my mistake, I admit, and an honest one at that. She sent her husband to get the cupcakes (Not even specifying to him what he was going to go get, mind you.) and when he got home, she called the bakery in a fit. Her husband had paid for the 12 cupcakes and she wanted to know why he didn't have 24 to pay for. I explained to her that the order DID say 12 count and not 24 and that it was a mistake and that I was sorry... that we would be glad to provide her with the additional cupcakes and that we may not have any more My Little Pony rings available, but I would go and check. She was furious and stated that she'd put in the order two weeks previously and that there was no reason in the world why her order should have been messed up. She exclaimed that her party was RIGHT THEN and had no way of just driving to Wal-Mart to get the extra cupcakes anyway because the party had already started. She wanted to speak to the general manager, and I told her she'd have to call the main office number. Later in the week, my manager said that she called the PRESIDENT of Wal-Mart, demanding that she somehow be compensated for her loss. (Eventhough we offered to fix our mistake, which is honestly more than I wanted to do after her yelling at me over the phone.)

I will admit to you right here and now that that was completely my fault. However, calling the president of Wal-Mart because you were shorted 12 cupcakes? I do admit that a birthday is a big deal, but why in God's name are you so ignorant and selfish that you have succumbed to TATTLING AND WHINING because you don't get your way? Do you even realize that there are people out there whose birthdays do not get celebrated at all and your child should be grateful to even have a roof over its head and food in its stomach? This is exactly why children are becoming such horrid creatures! They see their mothers and fathers act like complete idiots and get their way constantly. When I was growing up, you did what your mother and father told you to do and if you didn't, you'd get pulled over a knee, and that's just the way it was.

We are spoiling our children and we are spoiling ourselves. We are gluttons and heathens, desiring everything and giving very little back. When was the last time you stopped and talked to a complete stranger? Have you ever bought food for someone who cries for money on a dirty city street? Have you ever even stopped to think about how lucky you are to do ANYTHING AT ALL because there is very likely a person in this world who cannot do what you are doing?

Ruins in our castles.
How can we just keep walking by?
How can we allow our own world to crumble into the sand right in front of our faces? Do we not realize that as others crumble, it leads to our downfall as well? Every single person, no matter how insignificant they may seem, has a purpose in making this world go 'round.

It is up to you to make a difference. It is up to all of us to make a difference. We need to band together and fight inhumanity and make it back into humanity. We shouldn't have to lock our doors at night, or hear horrible stories about hunger and pain, because we should have enough love and compassion to make it die down. We cannot ever get rid of it completely and I do not wish for this to be a pipe dream, for we do have the power and knowledge to make a change... we just need to get off of our asses and make that change.

Believe me, after working in retail, I feel a lot worse about the world than I did even with all this other shit going on. Retail truly proves the stupidity and just general meanness of this society.
Thanks for saying all that, it's time.

I have worked fast food, and as much guilt and anger it brought me, I learned about a life I fight not to live (working full time at Hardee's for the rest of my life) and the lives I want to fight for. A 60 year old woman cooked disgusting hamburgers shipped from dirty slaughterhouses that torture animals for a living at $6.00 an hour. To say the least, my daily job was terribly depressing more than anything else. Raise minnimum wage along with other raising living expenses!
